An Onsite Communications Specialist on our team understands how to provide sound consultation to our clients – asking probing questions from a strategic lens – and then using strong judgement to apply strategy, develops and writes compelling content. An Onsite Communications Specialist works directly with our client to develop a variety of internal and external communications, interviews client leadership and subject matter experts to portray accurate information, applying appropriate quality assurance for well-executed final information products.

This position is responsible for providing onsite writing and editing services to the U.S. Army Edgewood Chemical and Biological Center located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Interview subject matter experts on complex Army science matters, and write plain-language newsletter articles ready for publishing
  • Gather information from a variety of sources and draft press releases
  • Edit a variety of written material, including internal and external command publications, to ensure they are completely free of errors
  • Attend meetings, take comprehensive notes, and finalize minutes in specified formats for distribution
  • Write and edit in AP style
  • Write and edit for web style (OPSEC)
  • Collaborate with other ABI staff members on creative campaigns, provide meaningful input and oversee project execution
  • Proactively offer assistance to team members on other projects
  • Meet aggressive deadlines and handle changing priorities
  • Utilize established management tools like conference call recaps, online project management, job tickets and online time tracking software

Must-Have Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism or related field
  • Experience working directly with clients and interviewing high level leadership for federal clients
  • Experience defining communication goals for digital communication products, working with web/digital design teams, writing content and providing insights to appropriate visuals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong copywriting skills and proficient of established writing style guides, as well as strong proofreading skills
  • Problem-solver and over-communicator with an exceptional attention to detail
  • Passionate and cooperative team player with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks of varying complexities
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and web-based software programs
